Madrid Food

Another obviously themed post but I can't help myself! The food throughout Spain was delicious, imaginative and varied from region to region. In Madrid's Mercat (Mercado) de San Miguel, one can find just about any possible palate pleaser. The photograph at top shows the exterior of this amazing market. We had stopped by there in the morning, but not much was happening. Alex and I went back in the evening on our last night in Madrid and voila! While Margaret and Patty were shopping for tchotchkes in the Plaza Mayor (a sangria pitcher), Alex and I enjoyed a frothy beer and took in the crowds of Madrilenos enjoying an incredible variety of offerings. The photographs sort of speak for themselves. The final photograph is from Botin, the oldest restaurant still running in the world. It was established in 1725 and looks it. Very charming with excellent and experienced waiters. I ordered cochinillo, or roast pig. Is that the tail of the little fella sticking up there?
