San Sebastian is rightfully known as a foodies' paradise, but it is also a beach resort. The top photograph shows the entire city from a vantage point reached by a funicular. The conch-shaped beach is about two miles long, and we walked it more than once. The water is warm, the beach is crowded, and the evenings mild and perfect for strolling. It was a great place to start our trip before meeting Patty and Alex in Barcelona, our traveling companions for the next two weeks.
